Contact
The fastest way to get something changed on this site is to tell us which sentence is wrong and which document contradicts it.
The contact form is not open yet.
This site does not publish an email address, for the reason set out below. The form that replaces it is being built. Until it is live there is no public correspondence channel, and that is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight.
Why there is no email address on this page
Correspondence with a scrutiny site is not ordinary post. A correction request identifies an error before it is public. A right-of-reply exchange contains a council's response before it is published. A legal complaint is a legal complaint. None of that belongs in a mailbox hosted outside the United Kingdom, and this site's mail is.
So the route in is a form, and what you send through it is stored in the United Kingdom. The alternative, publishing an address and asking people to trust the pipe, is the thing this site would criticise a council for doing.
This site sends no email to anyone except a system notification to its own operator, and that notification carries no part of your message. It does not receive email at all.
Corrections
When the form opens, a correction request will be most useful if it identifies the specific claim and points to the document that contradicts it.
Substantive errors are corrected in the article itself, with a note recording what changed and when, and logged permanently in the corrections log. We do not quietly edit the record.
Right of reply
If you are a council, or a person named in a piece, and you want to respond, the form will carry a right-of-reply route that records what was put to you, when, and what came back. The record of that exchange is part of how this site works, and it is kept whether you reply or not.
No right-of-reply correspondence will be started before that route exists.
Freedom of information
Where possible we make freedom of information requests through a public platform, so the response gets a permanent public address anyone can cite, including people who disagree with our reading of it. If you are an authority responding to a request from us, reply through the channel the request arrived on.
Legal
Complaints about accuracy are handled as corrections, and we would much rather hear from you early than late. When the form opens it will carry a route for formal correspondence, which should identify the specific words complained of and why they are said to be inaccurate.
